About Kybella®

Kybella is an FDA-approved fat-melting injectable drug. Kybella is derived from deoxycholic acid, a chemical our own body produces to help break down fats. When injected into the fat below the chin, known as submental fat, it breaks down and removes the fat cells. Kybella is individually tailored to each patient to improve the chin profile.

Your healthcare specialist may use cold packs or local anesthesia to help make you more comfortable before injections. The injections need to be placed carefully to achieve even results and avoid any nerves or other potentially problematic anatomical features. It is crucial to have Kybella injected only by a board-certified physician who has undergone the proper training for the injections.

A typical treatment takes about 15-20 minutes to perform. It is often done as a lunchtime procedure by many.

You may experience tenderness, bruising, areas of hardness, redness at injections sites that will resolve in a few hours. Although there’s no downtime, some people may notice mild to moderate swelling in the submental area for up to 3 days post procedure.

You’ll start seeing a reduced double chin from your Kybella injection about 4-6 weeks after treatment. You may need more than one injection to see ideal results. Results will continue to improve for several weeks after each treatment.

Before and after treatment, an office staff member may take your photo to track your results. This allows them to see how your treatment results evolve over time.

You’re a good candidate for Kybella if you have stubborn fat around the jawline and underneath the chin and have tried various other ways to reduce it. To maximize results and maintain the benefits of the treatment, it is highly recommended that one follows a healthy diet and exercise regimen.
